Correction — 19 September 2026: The first version said our sold history beat every comparison tool, proved a pricing advantage and prevented a specific loss. The examples do not establish those conclusions. This version separates reported comparisons from verified outcomes and treats store history as one source of evidence.

We run Still In The Box AU and are building TurnGoods around the decisions that come with reselling. When a market comparison differs from a price in our own sales history, the useful next step is to investigate the difference.

Neither number wins automatically. They may describe different sizes, condition, inclusions, dates, postage or sale outcomes.

Four reported comparisons that prompted a review

The earlier internal notes reported the following figures. They are retained here to explain what prompted the review, not as a new verified sales ledger or a like-for-like performance comparison. The article does not supply the underlying transaction and comparison records.

ItemReported comparison-tool resultReported store sale figure
Corsair MP600 PRO LPX 1TB$186 landed, six comparisons$244; reported sold in two days
Nike Air VaporMax Flyknit, US 13$180 landed, seven comparisons$255; reported full ask, five days
Nike Air Max 270, US 12No usable comparison$155; reported full ask
adidas Yeezy 350 V2 Zebra, US 13$224 landed$469

“Landed” and a recorded sale price may include different postage components. Exact model, condition, sale date, currency, quantity and retained payment also need checking before these figures can be compared. A missing comparison is not a zero price. A reported sale is not proof that payment was retained after cancellations or refunds.

The difference between two prices is not money saved. We did not establish what would have happened under an alternative asking price, or whether another unit would sell at the previous achieved price. No pricing advantage or TurnGoods sales lift follows from this table.

What each source can tell you

A market comparison tool supplies the records covered by its source and filters. It does not necessarily capture every seller or every completed transaction. Its relevance depends on the match: model, size, condition, inclusions, location, timing and postage.

Your own records can add details a public result lacks, including purchase cost, fees, fulfilment, returns and the exact item sold. Those details are useful only when recorded and linked correctly. Missing costs remain unknown.

A higher store sale price can reflect many differences. It does not, by itself, prove better photos, stronger feedback, a repeatable premium or luck being ruled out. A median alone also cannot describe the whole distribution of comparable outcomes.

Keep unsold stock in view

Sold history contains the items that sold. It leaves out the stock still waiting at its asking price unless you deliberately include it in the review.

For both fresh and older listings, consider prior store sales alongside current comparable evidence, time listed, availability and a consistent traffic window. A previous high price may be relevant to an older listing, but it cannot explain why that listing remains unsold. Nor does age alone establish that the price is wrong.

Record a hold, an investigation or an edit with its reason. If the evidence does not support a price change, say what is missing. Our eBay listing checklist provides a sequence for those checks.

A practical record to keep

For the old sale, keep the listing and transaction reference, exact item details, date, quantity, item revenue, buyer postage and any cancellation or refund. Keep actual fees, purchase allocation and fulfilment costs separate from estimates.

For each market comparison, keep its source, observation date, asking-versus-completed status, price basis and the reasons it is or is not a close match. Do not silently turn a broad category median into a recommended price for an exact item.

That lets you explain a decision without treating either your own history or an external tool as infallible. It is the workflow we are developing with TurnGoods using our own store; it is not an independently validated customer outcome.

If you would like to discuss a small listing review , we will agree scope, data handling, turnaround and any fee before you share an export. You retain control of your listings.
