How Australian Marketplace Fees Work

Selling online in Australia? Each marketplace takes a different cut. Here's what you need to know about the fees that eat into your profits.

eBay Australia Fees

eBay AU charges a 13% final value fee on the total sale amount (item price + shipping). The fee is capped at $440 per item. Your first 250 listings per month are free, then $0.35 each. Payment processing is included in the final value fee since eBay managed payments.

Depop Fees for Australian Sellers

Depop charges a 10% fee on the sale price only (not shipping), plus 2.9% + $0.30 for payment processing via Stripe. That's effectively ~12.9% + $0.30 on most sales. Listings are free and unlimited.

Facebook Marketplace — Not Supported

TurnGoods does not support Facebook Marketplace due to lack of API access, structured product catalogues, and consignment workflow integration. For professional resale, we recommend eBay and Gumtree — both supported in TurnGoods with one-click cross-listing.

Gumtree Fees

Gumtree is essentially free for sellers — it's a classifieds platform, not a marketplace. There are no final value fees and no payment processing fees because transactions happen off-platform. Optional promoted listings start from $3.95.

Grailed Fees

Grailed charges a 9% commission on the total sale price (including shipping), plus 2.9% + $0.30 payment processing via Stripe. Total effective rate is ~11.9% + $0.30. Popular for designer and streetwear reselling.

Vestiaire Collective Fees

Vestiaire Collective uses a sliding commission scale: 25% for items under $500, 18% for $500-$2,000, and 15% for items over $2,000. Authentication is included for items over $500. Higher fees, but access to luxury buyers worldwide.

Which Marketplace Has the Lowest Fees in Australia?

For local sales, Gumtree is fee-free for local sales. For shipped items, Etsy at ~9.5% (including listing + transaction + processing fees), then Grailed at ~11.9%, Depop at ~12.9%, and eBay at 13%. Vestiaire Collective is the most expensive at 15-25% but reaches luxury buyers.
